| Les cotes du Maine |
Salut la France ! (English follow)
Ça y est, nous sommes aux États-Unis
d’Amériques depuis presque 2 mois et on a déjà fait pas mal de choses :
On a passé la frontière le 17 mars
2015 pour entrer dans le Maine encore sous la neige (c’est pas parce qu’on
passe une frontière qu’on gagne 20°C…donc il fait toujours autour des -10°C).
La cote est jolie, glacée et un peu déserte.

On a décidé de longer la cote Est
jusqu’à la Floride donc du Maine on passe au New Hampshire puis au
Massachusetts (les États du nord Est sont assez petits et on les traverse assez
vite) pour s’arrêter à Boston. Le nord de la cote Est est principalement une
succession de villes : Boston, Providence, New York, Philadelphie,
Washington… Mais c’est clairement Boston qui nous a le plus séduit ! Une
super jolie ville avec des gens sympas d’un peu partout (Italiens, Irlandais…)
et pas mal de jeunes à cause des grandes écoles (MIT et Harvard).

New York aussi à été une chouette
expérience, une ville de fou qui touche le ciel…même si on y rencontre plus de
touristes que de locaux.
A New York, on a eu une bonne
surprise : on a retrouvé Chris, un copain qui voyage à vélo et qu’on avait
rencontré à Oulan Bator en Mongolie. Il vient juste de bouclé son tour du monde
de 4 ans !

Après New York, on est allez
chercher les œufs dans les jardins de la Maison blanche pour Pâques à
Washington. Pour les curieux : Ivan a eu une poule, moi un œuf et Barack
un lapin !
Toutes ces villes sont très jolies
mais on est content quand ça s’arrête, on a toujours était plus attirés par les
coins paumés.
En rentrant en Caroline du Nord, on
va donc sur l’Outer Bank, une ile de dunes rattaché au continent pas un pont.
C’est plutôt touristique mais ce n’est pas la saison et trouve facilement des
jolis coins à l’écart entre les dunes et les chevaux sauvages.

En Caroline du Sud, on quitte la
cote pour rejoindre des amis qui habitent vers Augusta. On avait rencontré
Tarver et Sally en Alaska alors qu’ils pêchaient le saumon. Et c’est bien ce
qu’on compte faire ici aussi, aller à la pêche ! Tarver et Sally sont un
couple adorable, ils nous ont accueillit comme des rois : entre 2 parties
de pêche, on mange les dindons et cerfs que Tarver ramène de la chasse !
L’endroit est magnifique, ils vivent
dans une forêt avec un petit lac dans leur jardin. En 2 semaines j’ai perfectionnée
un peu ma technique de pêche à la mouche (ce qui n’était pas dur : je suis
passée d’attraper des arbres à des poissons !) et Ivan a refait quelques
bout de carrosserie de Sputnik (le 4x4) qui avait un peu souffert après l’hiver
canadien et les routes salées. On a vraiment passé un super séjour en Caroline
du Sud, merci énormément Tarver et Sally !

On est maintenant fin Avril et on se
dirige vers la Floride, les alligators et les mangroves des Everglades. Depuis
les -10°C de notre entrée aux US, la température s’est beaucoup améliorée :
Plus de 30°C en Floride, ça fait du bien après l’hiver Canadien !

That's it, we are in the United States of America since almost 2 months now and we already done a lot of things:
We crossed the border the 17th of March 2015 to enter the Maine still under the snow (it's not because we cross a border that we get + 60 ° F ... so it's still around 14°F). The coast is pretty , icy and a bit deserted.
We decided to drive along the East Coast to Florida from Maine, so we been to New Hampshire and Massachusetts (North Eastern states are small enough and it’s fast to drive through) to stop in Boston. The north of the East coast is mainly a succession of cities: Boston, Providence, New York, Philadelphia, Washington ... But it is clear that Boston was the most attractive for us! A super nice town with nice people from everywhere (Italians, Irish ...) and a lot of young people because of the larges schools (MIT and Harvard).
New York also was a nice experience, a crazy city that touches the sky ... even if we meet more tourists than locals.
At new York, we had a pleasant surprise: we found Chris, a friend who is traveling by bicycle since 4 years. We already met him in Ulan Bator in Mongolia in 2013.
After New York, we went to the eggs hunt of the White House’s garden in Washington for Easter. For curious people: Ivan found a chicken, me an egg and Barack a rabbit!
All these cities are very pretty but we are happy when it stops, we always been more attract by remote place.

Entering in North Carolina, we spend few days on the Outer Bank, a dunes island attached to
the mainland by a bridge. It is rather touristy but this is the low season and it’s
easy to find nices spots to between the dunes and the wilds horses.
In South Carolina, we leave the coast to join friends who live nearby Augusta. We met Tarver and Sally while fishing salmon in Alaska. And that is what we intend to do here too, go fishing! Tarver and Sally are a lovely couple, they welcomed us like kings: between 2 fishing trips, we eat turkey and deer that Tarver bring back from hunting!
The place is beautiful; they live in a forest with pond in their garden. In two weeks I have improved a bit my fly fishing technique (which was not hard: I started catching trees and now I catch fishes) and Ivan did some body work on Sputnik (the 4x4) who had suffered a bit after the Canadian winter and the salted roads. We really had a great time in South Carolina, thank you so much Tarver and Sally!
It is now the end of April and we are heading to Florida, alligators and the Everglades. From 14° F when we enter US, the temperature has much improved: it’s now more than 86° F in Florida, it feels good after the winter Canadian!
