L'Uruguay...c'est tranquilo !!

Fin Mars 2017, on entre en Uruguay, un petit pays coincé entre le Brésil et l'Argentine.

J'ai l'impression que ce pays passe un peu inaperçu à côté de tous les géants d'Amérique du sud. Moins touristique et culturellement bien différent. C'est un peu comme si on avait déplacé la Suisse aux Antilles: des collines très très vertes, beaucoup de troupeaux de vaches et les fameux gauchos pour les garder, des palmiers partout et des plages magnifiques!! Et c'est ici que mon frère Maxime a décidé de venir faire un visa vacances/travail...Dans un pays que la plupart des gens ne savent pas situer !!!

End of March 2017, we entered Uruguay, a small country stuck between Brazil and Argentina. 

I have the feeling that this country goes a little unnoticed stuck between all the giants of South America. Less touristy and culturally different. It looks like we had moved Switzerland to the Caribéen: very green hills, lots of cows and famous gauchos to gard them, palm trees everywhere and beautiful beaches !! And it's here that my brother Maxime decided to come to make a Working/Holiday visa ... In a country that most people do not know where it is !!!

On est hyper content de retrouver Max, sur la côte du Pays à la Pedrera. Depuis 6 mois, il connait bien le pays et nous met tout de suite au parfum: ici c'est TRANQUILO ! Ça résume très bien le pays, les gens sont calmes et accueillants, ils ne font jamais les choses trop vite, même au volant ils sont cools... Gros dépaysement avec l'Argentine sur la route ;)

We are very happy to meet Max on the coast of La Pedrera. Since 6 months, he knows the country pretty well and immediately gave us the key word to survive Uruguay: TRANQUILO! It's exactly what Uruguay is, Muy tranquilo ! People are calm and welcoming, they never do things too fast, even when driving they remain calm ... Big change of scenery with Argentina on the road;)

Quelques jours plus tard, on récupère nos parents à Montevideo, une capitale super jolie.

Pendant une semaine, on visitera la côte à l'Est de Montevideo, une côte plus sauvage et avec des plages superbes... qu'est ce que ça nous avait manqué la plage !! C'est pas qu'il n'y avait pas la mer en Patagonie, mais c'était plus des températures adaptées aux pinguins !

Donc pour vivre comme les Uruguachos, tranquilo, à la Paloma, on s'est surtout concentré sur 2 choses: la plage et le barbecue.

 
For a week, we visited the coast, east of Montevideo, a wilder coast with beautiful beaches ... How we missed the beach !! Well there are beaches in Patagonia, but water temperature is more adapted to penguins than us!
So to live like the Uruguachos, tranquilo, in the small town of Paloma, we mainly focused on 2 things: the beach and the barbecue.

Et je crois qu'on est d'accord pour dire que les Uruguachos sont les champions du barbecue ! Même si les Brésiliens sont très forts, la palme revient a l'Uruguay ou on a dévoré des kilos de viandes délicieuse et je n'exagère pas !!

L'autre sport national très répandu est de boire du maté toute la journee ! Partout, en ville, à la plage, au supermarché, chez le dentiste ou dans le bus, les Uruguachos se baladent avec une tasse, une paille dans la bouche et une énorme thermos d'eau chaude sous le bras. Le maté est une herbe verte torifiée qui a tout un tas de propriétés bienfaisantes pour la santé...mais comme tout les trucs bon pour la santé, ça a un goût...particulier...

And I think we agreed that Uruguachos are the best for barbecues! Even if  Brazilians are very good, the "Best BBQ ever" prize goes to Uruguay where we ate pounds of delicious meat and I do not exaggerate !! 

The other popular national sport is drinking maté all day long! Everywhere, in the city, on the beach, at the supermarket, at the dentist's or in the bus, Uruguachos walked around with a cup, a straw in their mouth and a huge thermos of hot water under their arms. Maté is a green grass that has a whole lot of beneficial properties for health ... but like all the good stuff for health, it has a particular taste ...

Après la côte Est, on passe a l'ouest plus citadine mais super jolie comme Colonia de Sacramento, ancien port Portugais qui est resté coincé dans les années 50.

After the east coast, we went west more urban coast but super nice as the former Portuguese port that is stuck in the 50s, Colonia de Sacramento.

Nous n'avons passé que 2 semaines en Uruguay, mais c'etait vraiment une bouffée d'air frais...et une bombe de cholestérol !! On a passé un super moment avec Rapido ( surnom de Max car dans ce pays c'est un vrais speedy Gonzales comparé aux locaux), Serge et Françoise. Merci beaucoup ! Faut revenir nous voir plus souvent !!

 
We only spent 2 weeks in Uruguay, but it was really a breath of fresh air ... and a cholesterol bomb !! We had a great time with Rapido (Max's new nickname because in this country it's a really fast compared to the locals), Serge and Françoise. Thank you very much ! You should come back more often !!
